Meet Our Team

The professional support staff at Watauga Orthopaedics includes an incredible team of Mid-Level Providersand physical therapists at both locations in Johnson City and Kingsport, TN. Our PAs care for patients in our office and in the hospital following surgery, while our therapists provide comprehensive rehabilitation services in our onsite facilities. Whether you have a simple sprain or need reconstructive surgery, all of our providers have a passion for healing and are dedicated to improving your quality of life. Meet them below.

Everett V. Baker, NP Everett V. Baker, NP
Everett is a native of East Tennessee and received his undergraduate degree in nursing at Milligan College in 2000. In 2013 he finished his Masters of Science in Nursing with Family Nurse Practitioner focus from Middle Tennessee State University. He has over 14 years of experience in nursing and has worked at Johnson City Medical Center caring for surgical and non-surgical cardiac patients. He has been an avid cyclist and endurance athlete coach for many years which prompted him to take an interest in sports medicine and caring for orthopaedic injuries. He joined Watauga Orthopaedics in February of 2014.
Sam Cook, PA-C Sam Cook, PA-C
Sam first studied pre-med at East Tennessee State University then received his physician assistant degree at Trevecca Nazarene College in Nashville in 1991. After becoming a PA, Sam worked one year in a neurosurgical practice and 17 years in the Indian Path Emergency Room. Sam spent nine years working in an emergency room in Knoxville. In 2001 he moved to Johnson City and was an emergency room PA for seven years. He joined Watauga Orthopaedics in 2008. Sam is a member of the Tennessee Academy of Physician Assistants and the American Academy of Physician Assistants.
David M. Evans, PA-C David M. Evans, PA-C
Mike is a native of Johnson City and attended Science Hill High School where he played football, wrestled, and ran track. He is a member of the Science Hill High School Hall of Fame for football. He attended the University Of Memphis on a football scholarship and graduated with a B.S. in Engineering Technology. He later attended ETSU and graduated with a Masters Degree in Microbiology/Immunology. Mike then worked in the Pharmaceutical and Medical Equipment Industry for 13 years before going back to school to receive his Masters of Physician Assistant Degree from Lincoln Memorial University. After graduation, he worked several years in the emergency room for Northeast Tennessee Emergency Physicians before joining Watauga Orthopaedics in August of 2013, where he heads up the Quick Care Clinic in the Johnson City office. An avid biker, Mike also enjoys fishing, hunting, working out, and spending time with his wife, Laura, and their son, David.
Alvin L. Murphy, PA-C Alvin L. Murphy, PA-C
Alvin began his educational career at Science Hill School of Practical Nursing where he earned his Licensed Practical Nurse Diploma in 1994 and ended with a degree in Physician Assistant Studies at Jefferson College of Health Sciences in 2002. Between the years of 1995-2014, he has worked as a licensed practical nurse, physical therapy technician, and physician assistant, and he has been employed at Johnson City Medical Center, Appalachian Orthopaedics Associates, Greeneville Orthopaedics, and even Watauga Orthopaedics from 2004-2008. He has also worked as a volunteer firefighter and first responder/EMT and been on multiple medical missions to Haiti and Kenya. He returned to Watauga Orthopaedics in March of 2014 to work closely with Dr. Stewart who concentrates on reconstruction, sports medicine, and trauma.
Shawn A. Sutterlin, PA-C Shawn A. Sutterlin, PA-C
Born and raised in Southern California, Shawn came to East Tennessee to pursue his passion for orthopedics in the Watauga Orthopaedics PA Fellowship Program. After developing an appreciation for the four seasons and the region’s southern hospitality, he has remained in Johnson City with Watauga Orthopaedics since 2003. Shawn works closely with Dr. Aiken in the clinic and the operating room. His practice focuses on trauma, sports medicine, and adult reconstructive surgery.
